Independent Project - Animation
This is a video of me doing a board slide in Portland OR this past summer. I had always seen videos of this skatepark and rail. When I was little I always thought it would be really cool to hit this rail but it seemed impossible at the time. I landed the trick really easily, my sixth grade self wouldn't believe it! That's why I animated this video, this rail and skatepark just always appealed to me.
Artist Statement
I’ve never thought about why I create art before. I’ve always just had an idea and wanted to create it. After thinking about it I’d say I create art to express emotion but also for other reasons. I skateboard so I pull a lot of inspiration from that. Times I’ve done that is trying to draw similarly to Mark Gonzales who is a professional skateboarder and very talented artist. Also from companies like Welcome Skateboards and Polar Skateboards. I took some inspiration from Mark Gonzales and a local company called Rubber Room Skateboards to screen print a hoodie in drawing last year.
A lot of my artistic inspiration comes from skateboarding just because I probably look at more media from the skateboard world than a lot of other things. I’ve never found deep meaning in my art. Other than the source of my inspiration I never intend for my art to have meaning. I create it so I can be happy with what I create sometimes trying to find meaning before, after, or while you create something can take the fun out of creating it.

Light Writing
Project Reflection:
- I learned a lot from this experience. I learned how many tries it can take to get a good photo (some of these took 10+ tries). I learned how to change settings on a camera and adjust them for certain conditions. I learned/was reminded that photography takes time I always just take quick photos I never spend hours taking photos. Lastly I learned how hard, confusing, and fun light writing is.
- The hardest part of this project was getting the right settings on the camera and drawing the letters and numbers backwards so they would read right in the photo.
- The most enjoyable part of this project was seeing the characters that I drew with a flashlight. When I drew the "5" in my phone number I was super satisfied because it came out perfect and was first try. Once I got in a groove of drawing out the letters and numbers it was a lot of fun.
- I think I will continue to experiment with reduced light photography. I didn't get out and take and photos of the night sky so I'd like to try some of that, but I'd also like to figure out writing a word out with light writing instead of just a letter or number. I had fun doing this project and I'm sure I'll do more in the future.
Basic Composition Skills
Project Description: The goal of this project was to help us develop our basic composition skills. We had to take five photos for each composition. The basics compositions are: rule of thirds, diagonals, symmetry/asymmetry, the golden section phi grid, and fibonacci spiral.
Project Reflection:. I learned in this project how many tries it takes to really get the photo you want. It is important to know these skills because your photos will turn out much better if you do use them. Photographers have figured out that these help you make your photos look the most professional. It makes sense not to use them when you just can't frame your photo in a way that it goes along with one of these techniques. But for the most part it is important to take your photos with these in mind.
